The concept is interesting, but the execution just falls short for me. Yes, it has a purpose, but the pacing is unbalanced, so viewing his life at home feels like the story is very thin. The problem I have is that the life at sea is shown so much that the reader is bogged down with what I'll call purposeful nonsense that is so abstract that it's easy to find yourself waiting for something of consequence.
